The route is technically demanding and strenuous. We suggest this climbing program for experienced climbers only.
Day 1: La Paz – Sorata - Ancohuma.
We drive from La Paz to the colorful valley of Sorata, at the foothills of the Illampu. Then we continue our car ride for the village of Ancohuma at 4040 m. Camp. LB, D.
Day 2: Ancohuma – Base Camp.
From Ancohuma, we start our trek (4 hours) towards the base camp of Illampu. With magnificent views of the mountain, we will trek until we reach the place known as Aguas Calientes where our base camp is located. B, LB, D.
Day 3: Base Camp – Camp I (5000m).
We will transport our equipment to the border of the glacier at 5000m where our first high altitude camp is located. B, LB, D.
Day 4: Camp I – Camp II (5600m).
Today’s trek is about 5 hours and it will take us to the next altitude camp at 5600m. B, LB, D.
Day 5: Camp II – Illampu Summit.
We expect after 8 hours of continuous climbing to get to the summit of the impressive mountain. Climb back to the camp II. B, LB, D.
Day 6: Camp II – Base Camp.
Climb down to our base camp at Aguas Calientes. B, L, D.
Day 7: Base Camp – Ancohuma – Sorata.
Descent to Ancohuma and from here transport to Sorata. B, L, D.
Day 8: Sorata – La Paz.
Transport back to La Paz. B.
