After a straightforward climb up to the summit, climbers, and weather permitting, will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Cordillera Occidental and a glimpse down and into the enormous crater of the Volcano.
Day 1: La Paz – Sajama.
In the morning we depart La Paz bound for the Village of Sajama (elevation 4250m/13950ft) situated near the base of Volcano Sajama. We will use 4x4 vehicles over both paved and unpaved roads for approximately five hours. We arrive at the village of Sajama and make our way to a local house where we will spend the evening. Nearby there are some hot springs where we will partake in a relaxing soaking within view of the mighty Sajama. LB, D.
Day 2: Sajama – Base Camp Parinacota.
After a leisurely breakfast, we depart from the Village of Sajama heading west toward the base camp (5100m/16730ft) located between the volcanoes Pomerata and Parinacota. The remaining afternoon we can spent performing a light acclimatization hike, taking a few photos or just relaxing. After dinner, we turn in early in preparation for a very long day tomorrow. Day 3: Parinacota Base Camp – Summit – Base Camp.
After a pre-dawn wake up and a hearty breakfast, the expedition sets off on foot at daybreak for the summit of Parinacota. After approximately nine hours of gentle traverses over the snow-covered volcano, the expedition finds itself standing on the summit of Parinacota poised on the edge of a massive extinct crater. After enjoying the view and some photos, we begin the 3-4 hour descent to base camp where we will enjoy a hot dinner and few celebratory drinks. B, LB, D.
Day 4: Base Camp – Sajama – La Paz.
After a hearty breakfast and a relaxed morning, with our vehicles we start for the long journey (approximately 6-7 hours) back to La Paz. Plenty of photo opportunities are available as we traverse the Cordillera Occidental on our way back to the city.
