Sajama National Park is covering approximately an extension of 100000 hectares. Established as National Park in 1942, this wonderful area contains the highest forest in the world, the queñua tree (polylepis tarapana) which grows up to an altitude of 5200m. Here we also find 3 high volcanoes: Sajama (6542m) considered the highest volcano in Bolivia, Parinacota (6342m) and Pomerape (6282m) which are giving to the area an amazing outlook.
Day 1: La Paz – Kalakoto.
Starting from La Paz, we drive south towards the small town of Patacamayo and from there southwest towards the stone town of Kalakoto (4000m). Stay in Indigenous house or camp. LB, D.
Day 2: Kalakoto – Sajama.
In the morning, we explore this interesting area and then in the afternoon we continue our trip towards the town of Sajama at the foothills of the impressive Sajama Volcano, considered the highest mountain in Bolivia. We will be lodging in local family houses or camp at 4300m. B, LB, D.
Day 3: Sajama National Park.
The whole area offers excellent trekking and hiking opportunities. We will trek along the flanks of the volcano and enjoy the hot water springs and the view of the impressive geysers existing in the area. Camp at 4300m. (B, LB).
Day 4: Sajama – La Paz.
Long drive journey back to the city of La Paz. End of our services. B, LB.
