fix2

Uyuni is the highest and the largest salt desert in the world. It is located south-west off Potosi at an average altitude of 4,000m. The Salt fields of Uyuni and Coipasa are unique, with unusual fauna for this region such as pink and white flamingos, geese, ducks, coots, etc. Our tours (in combination of 4-WD transport and daily hikes) will take us to one of the most impressive landscapes in South America. The best months for visiting this amazing area are from May to November when the dry weather allows traveling without many dangers. In the rainy season (December to April), we can find muddy bays which can block the vehicles. The icy winds, the low temperatures (-10º C to -15º C) and the fact that drinking water is not present in this area, make this beautiful place a dangerous one, if you venture to cross it without an experienced guide.

Note: In our Salar de Uyuni tours, we use comfortable jeeps for maximum four participants (+ guide). Accommodations are in small simple small hotels with rooms for two people and with private facilities.
Note: For safety reasons, we always provide a Spanish/English speaking guide.

Starting from Uyuni.
Uyuni airport (or hotel in Uyuni) – Villa Candelaria Lodge.
In the morning, our guide and transport will be waiting for you at the airport (or we pick you up from your hotel). Immediately we start the drive south towards the train cemetery where we make a short stop to see the remains of nineteenth and early 20th century steam locomotives used for the mining industry of Uyuni and Potosi. Then we drive towards Alota region on the highlands of Bolivia and on the way if lucky, perhaps we can observe the Andean Ñandu (Ostrich) wandering on the high plateau. Crossing the Rock Forest, an interesting geological area, we continue towards Laguna Hedionda where we can observe three species of flamingos. This scenic area gives you excellent opportunities for photography. Our next stop will be to observe the active Ollague Volcano. Our drive then will continue to cross the Salar de Chiguana, and then finally we arrive to Villa Candelaria small lodge for overnight and enjoy a well-deserved rest.  LB, D
